Hunting For Treasures

Some how I always find the perfect hunt when it comes to treasures of Art and or Collectibles.

 On a recent trip to London...We truly found some treasures.  My sister and I were staying across the street from Sotheby's.  We were running to watch a Wimbledon match and decided to poke our head in to Sotheby's.  Well we happened upon a TREASURE FOR SURE!!!!!

These were things that we could only look at and be in awe..

MORE EXTRAORDINARY!!

So funny....I went to The Bahamas a few years ago when I started my blog... I had heard of India.  I loved her style, her attitude and her connection with Diana..

So, back to the Bahamas.  I was in the process of getting a divorce and took my children and a friend on a getaway trip.  When we arrived at the hotel...I discovered a book by India Hicks.  I read it cover to cover.  I then blogged about her and the life she had.  Refer to my old posts..

 I saw her again a few years later on HSN promoting her line of linens.  I loved it! Then a friend of mine was wearing the coolest necklace.. It was a BLOCK letter with her initial D. She told me she ordered it from India Hicks.  Well I had to have it!  

So when this opportunity arose for me to represent India I just knew that I had to do it!!

As we drove through Nassau we were amazed at all the colors!!!!  Its like driving through a rainbow......

What A Life!!

When we walked in the hotel room in the Bahamas I noticed on the coffee table the book.....Island Life  by India Hicks and David Flint Wood.

I grabbed it and thought....OMG she lives here in the Bahamas!!

I have read it cover to cover!!!

I think her life and her style are amazing!

She is the third child of Lady Pamela Mountbatten & David Hicks, a celebrated interior decorator.  She is a fashion model, an author, a hotel owner, a Mom of 4...And a free spirit!!

I love that she was one of Princess Diana's Bridesmaids and second cousin to Prince Charles.   I follow her blog...India Hicks Journal

Try Not To Pay Retail When Decorating

Oh, The Many Magazines that I have scoured through, dreaming of having those Homes.....(just like Tory's) I always knew that if I wanted that look that I needed to be creative!!

I remember our first apartment in NYC. We couldn't bring anything from Oklahoma. So, we went to many sales: Estate Sales, Moving Sales, Tag Sales, Flea Markets and also the  Biggest Treasure Chest.....Trash.  We didn't dig but if sitting there.....

"One man's trash is another Man's treasure."  

We did it on a dollar!!! And Loved IT!!!!

 Many of those items we have dragged across the country. We have either recovered, painted or just polished.  Those are probably My favorite things.  Those things tell a story!!!! I remember all of them.....

I still don't like to pay retail when decorating.  If I happen upon something in a shop that is so special and can't be duplicated then YES....Get It!!!
But while scouting these places like Antique Booths, Antique Shops, Flea Markets, Consignment Shops, Garage Sales......Do Not Be Afraid to ask.....
Is This your Best Price.... You never know!!!


A few special Treasure's of mine.....

An old Scandinavian box from Connecticut Trash.  I have repaired it and I Love it!!

Some pillows that I found at a garage sale.  They are down fill with silk fabric on front and burlap on back. Love!!

This stool I got at a garage sale.  It was ripped and a mess.  I recovered it in a sample fabric that I had in a stack....It is perfect now!!!

On a recent trip to the Dallas Gift Market I ran into this amazing temporary exhibit.

 A pillow company from Virginia.  The colors and quality are amazing!!!   

A room changes its personality based on accessories.....and these pillows  thrown on any sofa, chair or bed will change the entire room....

Lots of people(especially "men").. don't like a lot of pillows on a bed or sofa....with 

pillows its not about quantity......It is quality!!!

A Tennis Moment

Normally, I play tennis many times a week......Since I had foot surgery I have had to take a little sabbatical. 

 I am missing it terribly but luckily I get a temporary fix  watching Wimbledon..... I have been there a couple of times.....It is the best of tennis....Beautiful place to be!!
